This week we visit: Honduras
Honduras is not the most popular tourist destination in Central America mostly due to its high crime numbers, but if you decide to visit this country, you will soon learn that it is one of the most amazing destinations you could hope to visit. Today, we will be looking at some of Honduras’ main tourist attractions.
The first place to see and experience is Tegucigalpa, the country capital and a very unique city. It has a very rich colonial history that you can see in the city center, which is teaming with amazing architecture and remnants of years past. La Tigra national park is located just north of the city and it is also an attraction you mustn’t miss.
If you are visiting Honduras for beaches and the ocean, you have to check out the Bay Islands, an archipelago of 8 islands, each lined with incredible sandy beaches and some of the clearest waters in the world. The islands of Roatan and Utila are especially beautiful and therefore the most popular.
For those who are looking to learn about the Mesoamerican history of the country, Copán is the place to be. It is one of the most spectacular Mesoamerican archaeological sites, easily accessible and offering visitors a chance to experience this part of Central-American history firsthand.
The Lancetilla Botanical Garden is another natural marvel, located just outside the town of Tela. It is the second largest botanical garden in the world, boasting an incredible variety of trees and plants from all over the world. The atmosphere is just intoxicating there.
