1. Cotswolds

Get in touch with nature by exploring the beautiful woodlands in Gloucestershire, where you’ll find some hidden surprises. The countryside resides in several different counties, the majority in Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, but also in Wiltshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, and Somerset.

According to the Gloucestershire Tourism Information and Travel Guide, the majority of Cotswolds used to be used for sheepherding long ago. In fact, much of the infrastructure that is present in the area was built with money generated through the sale of the sheep and their wool. A number of quirky and entirely unique shops reside in the different towns and villages, with items you won’t find elsewhere.

Fun pubs are also scattered about, providing an excellent place to rest up from your adventures. There are many old churches in the area, which are magnificent to see in person, as well as many old stone villages and towns that are relaxing and charming to visit. Many of the buildings are made of aged limestone that was quarried by hand long ago, giving a rustic quality to the structures.

Streams are quite numerous in the area, with many of them running through towns, alongside roads and just about everywhere else, providing a relaxing background noise. Outdoor foodie markets provide visitors with fresh foods that are grown right in the area.

A number of different outdoor festivals are held in the area throughout the year, as well as a variety of sporting events that will please a variety of visitors. Of course, there is plenty of nature in the area, which only makes your holiday stay that much more enjoyable.

Plenty of foot and cycle paths abound, taking you through meadows and wooded areas alike. The undergrowth hides wild garlic flowers that are beautiful to look at and even can be used as a flavorful addition to salads or other dishes.
