Panama is a beautiful Central American country with a long and tumultuous history, beautiful natural attractions and the second-largest economy in Central America. If you decide to travel to Panama, get ready to enjoy one of the best holidays of your life. If you are not sure what to visit on your first trip there, here are a few suggestions.
Panama City is probably where you will be arriving in the country and it makes for an attraction all on its own. It is a modern city, founded in 1519 and still features innumerable historic buildings that you will love. Besides traditional and historic architecture, Panama City also boasts plenty of modern architecture and fantastic restaurants as well.
Of course, you will also want to see the Panama Canal, one of the biggest construction projects of all time, recently expanded and still a marvel to behold. You can cross the canal if you wish, or you can find a nice spot along the canal and watch the ships pass.
If you are looking to enjoy the beach and the ocean, you might want to visit the Bocas del Toro Province where you will find gorgeous beaches and some of the best diving spots in this part of the world. You can also visit the Coiba National Marine Park, one of the premiere such areas on the Pacific. The San Blas Islands are also famous for their white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. You can rent out an island for a day, if you want.
For hiking enthusiasts, there is no better place in Panama than Sendero Los Quetzales, a 5-mile route which winds all the way through the Parque Nacional Volcan Baru, traversing lush cloud forests and following the Rio Caldera river.
