Things You Shouldn’t Miss In The Maldives

In our new Globe Trotter series, Viral Travel reviews all the best places to see, eat, and stay at, in every country of the world!

This week we visit: Maldives

The Maldives is one of the world’s premiere exotic destinations, often described as heaven on earth. It is a tiny island country, the smallest in Asia, both in area and population, but also one of the most popular among the tourists. And it really has tons to offer.

First and foremost, there are the beaches. Simply put, Maldivian beaches are among the best in the world. Perhaps THE best. They are all white sand beaches that look like something off the covers of magazines. They are just incredibly beautiful. Then, there is the ocean, so clear and clean that you will believe you were transported to another world.

The Maldives are also famous for diving and you will have plenty of choice when it comes to this particular activity. HP Reef and Banana Reef are among the most popular diving destinations, not only in the Maldives, but in the world. You might also want to check out the Manta Point where, as its name would suggest, you can dive with manta rays. This is one of only a few places in the world where you can do this.

Of course, you will also be spending some time in Male, the capital of the Maldives and one of the most stunning cities in the world. It looks as if the buildings spring out from the sea. When in Male, you should definitely check out the National Museum to learn about the Maldives history and culture.

You should also find the time to visit the Hukuru Miskiiy, one of the most incredible religious temples in the world. It is a mosque from the 17th century, made almost entirely out of coral stone and offering a very special kind of peace and quiet.
