This week we visit: Mongolia
Mongolia is a huge country (more than twice the size of Texas) in central Asia, nestled between the Russian Federation and China. It is a country that is rich in culture and history and whose rulers played important roles in global politics. It would probably take you an entire lifetime to see all of Mongolia, but there are a few things that you must see and do when you visit this majestic country.
One of the places to visit in Mongolia is definitely Lake Khövsgöl, the largest lake in Mongolia and one of the clearest, most unspoiled lakes in the world. It is surrounded by lush forests and it is best seen and experienced on horseback. You can drink the water from the lake without any preparation or cooking, it is that pristine.
At the foot of Khentii Mountains, you will find innumerable rivers and streams that are teaming with wild fish and where everyone who truly lives for fishing comes at least once in their life. The scenery is simply unreal, the waters are as clear as glass and the fishing is great.
The Darhad Valley is one of the most remote parts of Asia, located in the Northwest of the country and inhabited by people who live the life they have lived since times immemorial. They still hold on to their traditional culture that relies on reindeer and they are among the most hospitable people in the world. You may be away from pretty much everywhere, but you will still feel at home in this gorgeous valley.
Finally, there is the stargazing in the Gobi Desert, which is a much more hospitable place than you would think, at least in some parts. Once you look up at the endless sea of stars in Gobi, you will understand what absolute peace is.
