This week we visit: Montenegro
Montenegro may not be as famous a gastronomical destination as its northern neighbor Croatia, but this is not saying that this tiny country in the Adriatic does not boast some truly fantastic restaurants. The following ones are the absolute best.
For a taste of traditional Montenegro, there is really no best place than Konoba Koliba in the city of Tivat. This unassuming but very pleasant traditional eatery offers a great range of traditional cured meats, grilled seafood and simple dishes that are nonetheless extremely tasty. They also make their own bread and have some of the best lemonade you will taste in your life.
Catovica Mlini (the Mills of the Catovic family) are another very popular restaurant in Montenegro, found in the tiny village of Morinj, just outside of Perast ion the Bay of Kotor. Historic mills were repurposed and it is now one of the leading restaurants in the country. Seafood is once again name of the game, together with homemade cheese, prosciutto and some truly great local wine.
If you find yourself in the capital of Podgorica, the place to eat is definitely Pod Volat, a haven for meat lovers. They do all kinds of grilled meat dishes that southeastern Europe is famous for. They also do some amazing traditional stews and thanks to exquisite service and unique décor, Pod Volat really makes for an incredible restaurant.
