This week we visit: Cyprus

If you’re planning on visiting the birthplace of the ancient Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, you’re in for a real treat. This island country is swarming with heavenly beaches, breathtaking nature and has a very hectic nightlife. One thing you should pay attention to, though, is that Cyrpus is somewhat divided country with its north part being a self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. This is the first sensitive topic you should pay attention not to mention when you don’t have to.
Other than that, pretty much the standard rules apply. Keep your passports and your money safe – room safes and safety deposit boxes have been targeted previously, so it’s best to carry them in a bag around your neck and under your shirt. If you drink, know your limit; avoid splitting up from your friends.
Also, the roads aren’t really all that safe with 44 deaths recorded in 2013. If you’re renting a car or a bike, make sure it’s properly serviced and that it has the right safety equipement. Bathing is generally safe, just be careful about the strong seas and undertows – always obey the signs and regulations.
If you intend take part in any adventure sports, make sure you have the right travel insurance. Only use properly licensed and insured operators and never (NEVER) hand over your passport as a guarantee against the safe return of the equipment. Follow these simple tips, and everything will be just fine. Have a nice voyage!
