This week we visit: Switzerland
Although Switzerland is one of the safest European countries, there are some things you should know before exploring its picturesque mountains and vibrant cities.
Despite the fact that Switzerland has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, you should follow some basic safety tips in order to have a pleasant and enjoyable stay.
It goes without saying that you should keep money and documentation secure. Keep wallets close to you and put bag straps over the neck. Pickpocketing often happens in large crowds and/or at top tourist attractions.
When travelling to mountainous regions, make sure to check the weather and inform someone of your route. Also, purchase mountain search and rescue insurance if you plan to hike or ski. Always stay on marked paths when hiking in mountainous areas, no matter how safe shortcuts may appear. Needless to say that you should be dressed appropriately, and be properly equipped at all times.
Last but not least, be especially careful on high altitudes because your body needs time to adapt to such an extreme change. People suffering from heart or lung disease should talk to their doctor before traveling and vacationing in high altitudes.
