Generally speaking, Germany is a safe country for tourists and the majority of people traveling to this Central European country experience no problems whatsoever. However, there are some things you need to pay attention to, such as pickpockets, bag snatchers and other petty thieves.
Apart from being cautious and behaving like you would in your home country, you should also know that Germany is no stranger to political demonstrations – they can sometimes turn violent and innocent people may be attacked. Despite the fact that police oversees demonstrations, there are situations when authorities also have to react in a violent manner. Tourist are therefore advised to avoid areas where protest and demonstrations are held – read local media to learn what is happening in the country during your stay.
Moreover, hooligans and skinheads may pose a threat to tourists, seeing as they have been known to insult and attack foreigners, especially for racial reasons.
On the other hand, violent crime is rare in Germany, though it may occur in large cities or shady areas, including train stations, dark streets and abandoned buildings.
