This week we visit: Montenegro
Montenegro is a tiny country in Southeastern Europe, just below Croatia on the Adriatic, boasting an incredible coast and a rugged but beautiful inland that has its own rough charms. It is a country that you can drive up and down in in a matter of hours, but it still offers a ton to its visitors.
One of the places you mustn’t miss out on in Montenegro is the town of Kotor. It features one of the most beautiful Old Towns in the Mediterranean, so charming and peaceful that you will fall in love with it. If you climb the innumerable steps to the fortress, you will experience one of the most incredible views in all of Europe.
Sveti Stefan is another place to check out in Montenegro, or at least it is for those with money to spare. Namely, in 2008, it was bought by a hotel chain which turned the entire island into a resort of sorts, a luxury one with insane prices. Still, no one can charge you for the view and the view of it is truly spectacular.
If you leave the coast, you will see some of the harshest and most unforgiving mountain vistas in all of Europe and in the middle of it all is the Ostrog Monastery, built into a cliff and surrounded by pretty much nothing. Driving to it is an adventure all on its own, but it is more than worth.
Perast is Montenegro’s hidden gem, a tiny town with no more than 500 residents, a café or two and historic buildings that will blow your mind. It is a sleepy place with its own rhythm and it is almost impossible not to fall head over heels in love with it.
