The only grand duchy in the world is also one of the safest countries on the planet, according to numerous reports. Like in so many European travel destinations, pickpockets and purse-snatchers are the only real threat to tourists. In order to avoid any unpleasant situations, here are some basic safety tips:

You should keep your eyes open especially when you are visiting top tourist attractions as petty thieves usually operate in crowded places. Furhter, theft often occurs on buses, and trains, as well as in transportation hubs and airports. The area around Gare, where you can catch the train to Paris, also attracts a lot of pickpockets and bag snatchers.

Of course, keep your valuables and documents close to you at all times. Be careful when taking out cash from an ATM because thieves may try to look over your shoulder and learn your pin number.

One of the biggest challenges in Luxembourg is parking your car. In addition to being quite troublesome, parking in the middle of the city is also expensive. Car garages charge high fees as well. If you park without paying, traffic wardens will fine you. You should also be aware that finding an available parking spot takes time. Since parking your car in Luxembourg can be a real nightmare, be extra careful not to damage your car – or other people’s vehicles.
