This week we visit: Indonesia
Indonesian cuisine is amazing, and a lot of people might not know that there is actually a lot of variety to it. When we are talking food in Indonesia, there really area lot of differences in meals as you travel from one island to another.
For example, most of the islands will all have their own specialties and many are known for serving certain types of dishes and meats best. Like if you are really in the mood for beef, then your best best would be to visit Sumatra. And if you are a big fan of pork and duck, then Bali is the island that you need to be checking out. Java is probably the best island when it comes to fish and chicken dishes.
So the recommended meals really depend on where you are and what island you are visiting. When it comes to eating your food, do not be surprised at what you see. Most Indonesians do not use utensils when they eat. They usually only eat with their hands. In fact, Indonesians exclusively eat with their right hands. So if you want to get into the spirit and culture of the place, you should try the same and eat the meals only with your right hands. If you are a lefty, well, you should try anyway.
Also, you really have not experienced the true wonders of Indonesian cuisine until you have eaten from a food cart. They are great if you are just looking for a quick bite on the street and the food is usually amazing and incredibly authentic.
