This week we visit: Mongolia
We usually tell you what nightlife places to visit in a certain country at this point but for Mongolia we are going to do something different. Sure, there is nightlife in major cities in the country, but there are so much better, more traditional things that you can do in this glorious country, that we would feel remiss not to tell you about them.
The first thing to experience in Mongolia is one of their Naadams, traditional game events that happen all over the country. The one in Ulaanbaatar is the most famous and the largest, but it can be too crowded. Our advice would be to check out the one at Khatgal which is even more traditional and real. You will still see all the wrestling, horse racing and archery that you want.
Celebrating Tsagaan Sar (their New Year) with a Mongolian family is another thing that you just have to experience. It is going to be a feast with plenty of great traditional dishes, drinks, song and amazing hospitality which is unprecedented in the world.
You should also find the time to watch Mongolian horsemen herding wild horses in the countryside. It is a once-in-a-lifetime sight and until you see these proficient people handling horses like no one else can, you cannot really know Mongolia.
Finally, you should definitely try and experience a falconry trip with Kazakhs in the foots of the Altai Mountains. Once again, you will learn about the very special bond that people of Mongolia have with the animal life in their country and you will get to know them so much better. Plus, you will have a giant falcon on your forearm if you play your cards right!
