Swiss cuisine is a mouth-watering combination of German, French and Italian influences that varies greatly from one region to another. Although you will find a wide array of international foods in most restaurants and hotels, you should definitely find delight in their traditional dishes.

First of all, you cannot visit Switzerland without trying at least one of more than 100 varieties of Swiss cheese.  This Alpine country is world renowned for its cheese which is made in hundreds of small dairies. Each and every one of those remarkable cheese varieties is made under the strict direction of a master cheese maker with a federal degree. Some of the most popular types of cheese are Switzerland Swiss or Emmentaler, Gruyère, Appenzeller, Raclette, Royalp, and Sapsago.

The most popular national dish is a delicious cheese fondue which consists of cheese melted in white wine flavored with garlic and lemon juice. Seasonings include freshly ground pepper, nutmeg, paprika, and Swiss kirsch. You can eat hot bread, apples, grapes, shrimp and many more foods with the fondue. We also recommend raclette, a cheese specialty that is equally superb.

No one can speak of Swiss foods without mentioning chocolate. Switzerland is the largest chocolate manufacturer worldwide and the Swiss eat and drink more chocolate than any other nation in the world. There are numerous brands of chocolate and all you have to do is decide which one you want to try. Bon appétit!
