This week we visit: Finland
Helsinki is not a cheap city for drinking but when you are visiting a city, you still have to have a few here and there, right? Finns have never been averse to drinking and they know how to do bars, pubs, cocktail bars and other types of watering holes, definitely. But what exactly are the best places to get a drink in Helsinki, you ask?
We have to start with Liberty or Death. The reason for this is quite simple. It is by far the best cocktail bar in Finland and many argue that it might actually be the best cocktail bar in all of Scandinavia, which is not something easily achieved. The barmen are superb at what they do, the atmosphere is just right and this makes Liberty or Death an unmissable Helsinki experience.
Bar Bäkkari is an institution in Helsinki. The bar is downstairs of a nightclub called Greenroom where all the metal and rock acts have their gigs in Helsinki and it is an uncompromising place that might not be for everyone but that some people will just love. It is a rocking place through and through.
If you are looking for something real unique, make sure to visit Kafe Mockba – a play on the Cyrillic spelling of the word Moscow – which is a cozy bar done in the Soviet style. It is unlike anything you have ever seen.
Musta Kussa is another Helsinki bar that you have to check out, especially if you like small places with local crowds. The bar is often packed with students living in the area and there is always something happening there.
